Stephen Howell, M.D., Methodist Hospital, Sacramento, CA

Dr. Howell is an experienced orthopedic surgeon and researcher focused on knee and shoulder disorders. Known worldwide for his pioneering work in the reconstruction of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) of the knee, he has also collaborated with OtisMed Corporation to develop Custom Fit Knee™ replacement with OtisKnee™ guide.  The first surgeon in the U.S. to offer OtisKnee™ guide, Dr. Howell has completed hundreds of Custom Fit Knee™ procedures to date.

Dr. Howell is currently in practice focusing on the treatment of degenerative diseases and sports-related injuries and of the knee and shoulder, and also serves as a professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department at the University of California, Davis. He has authored more than 80 scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals. He is president of the International ACL Study Group; a member of the International Society of Arthroscopy Knee Surgery and Orthopedic Sports Medicine, American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, North American Arthroscopy Association and Herodicus Society; and past member of the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons. He has presented research at clinical and biomechanical meetings across the world. Dr. Howell is also a member of the editorial boards of the American Journal of Sports Medicine and Knee.

Dr. Howell earned his bachelor’s degree in Premedicine with a minor in Biophysics from Penn State University and his M.D. from Northwestern University School of Medicine. He interned at the Graduate Hospital, University of Pennsylvania and served his residency at Thomas Jefferson University. He also served in the U.S. Air Force as a Lieutenant Colonel at David Grant Medical Center at Travis Air Force Base in California and was reactivated for four months for the Persian Gulf War.

Joseph Vernace, M.D., Main Line Orthopaedics, PA

Dr. Vernace is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in hip, knee and shoulder joint replacement and arthroscopy. In private practice in the greater Philadelphia area for more than 19 years, Dr. Vernace has performed thousands of joint replacement surgeries and has been instrumental in bringing new technologies to the patient community. He is currently co-director of the Bryn Mawr Hospital Joint Replacement program, and is a clinical instructor at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.

Thomas D. Meade, M.D., OAA Orthopaedic Specialists, PA

Dr. Meade serves as President and a Sr. managing partner of OAA Orthopaedic Specialists.  He co-developed the 300,000 sq. ft. Integrated Health Campus, a landmark national showcase medical fitness facility.  He is an avid cyclist and competitive swimmer who qualified for the Ironman Triathlon during his orthopaedic residency.  He has held top 10 US Masters Swimming rankings and shares national and world records in men's freestyle relay events with fellow OAA physician, Dr. Charles Norelli.

Dr. Meade limits his practice to knee surgery, both sports injuries and joint replacements (with the rare exception of displaced clavicle fractures, where he is recognized as a leading expert in surgical treatment). His unique experience in treating Knee injuries from ages 12 to 99, affords him the insight and experience to treat the entire spectrum of knee disorders, from small meniscal tears and ACL & PCL injuries to advanced arthritis. His practice of over 800 knee surgeries annually are split equally between knee replacements (resurfacings) and complex arthroscopic knee surgeries. John Mariani, D.O., Academy Orthopaedics, NJ

Dr. Mariani is a board certified, community-based physician who has practiced general orthopedics and sports medicine for more than 21 years. Daniel Snyder, M.D., Newton Wellesley Orthopedic Associates, MA

Dr. Snyder is a board certified orthopedic surgeon with more than 22 years in private practice. Joseph C. McCarthy, M.D., Boston Center for Hip and Knee Surgery, MA

A board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in total joint arthroplasty and hip arthroscopy, Dr. McCarthy is the vice chairman of the department of orthopedics at Massachusetts General Hospital and the director of the Kaplan Center for Joint Reconstructive Surgery at Newton-Wellesley Hospital. Mitchell B. Sheinkop, M.D., Neurologic & Orthopedic Institute of Chicago, IL

Mitchell B. Sheinkop, M.D., a board-certified orthopedic surgeon, is Director for the Joint Replacement Program at the Neurologic & Orthopedic Institute of Chicago.  He is a leading authority on the treatment of patients with complex hip and knee disorders, and is particularly well known for his pioneering use of computer-assisted navigation, and minimally invasive hip and knee replacement technologies, including the uni-compartmental knee replacement. Joseph Marotta, M.D., Burdett Orthopedics, NY

Dr. Joseph J. Marotta is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine, arthroscopy and joint replacement surgery. He is currently Chief of the Department of Surgery at Samaritan Hospital in Troy, New York, and is also on staff at St. Mary's Hospital and the Albany Memorial Hospital.
